Custom Development

Due to taking on a full-time job as a Systems Architect, I'm not available for custom development anymore.

I'm planning on keeping my extensions updated as well as adding new features. For people interested in custom development for my extensions you could ask on the Support Forum. If I can't help, someone else might be able to.

Coming changes PDF Print E-mail
Written by Olle Johansson

I've been hard at work lately, and am working almost full time in the coming weeks, so there will be a lot of changes soon. I've already updated the Work in Progress with a lot of new information. I can of course not promise that anything will actually ever be finished on that page, but I will do my best to work on them.

Read on for more information on coming changes...

Imminent changes

There are a couple of things that will hopefully be coming very soon, within the next week or so, if the current development goes smoothly.

Mamblog v1.0

I've promised this time and again, but this will be released, there's just no excuse any more, it has to be made available to the public.

Module fixes

I have a couple of modules I've already updated to work with Joomla! and these will be released soon, these are Jx Latest Commented, Jx Show Users and Jx Show lInks. I'll work on the other modules when I get the time.

Beta release of the Jambook guestbook component

Jambook is an open source Joomla guestbook component with spam protection and many customization options developed specifically for Joomla! All frontend html is template based, using the same system as Jobline, and it can also use the Joomla wysiwyg editor. The spam shield seetings allows the admin to select what is to be regarded as spam, as well as what to do with comments regarded as spam. Jambook is currently in closed beta testing and will be released for a public beta when I've had the time to write some documentation and do some finishing touches on the code.

Rebranding of the site

I will soon rebrand this web page so that it won't use Mambo in the name. At the same time I will also restructure the site so that it will be easier to find information on the different components and hopefully integrate news, bug tracker and file releases from the Joomla developer site as I will use that site for all those things. Incidentally I will also upgrade the site to the latest Joomla! version and switch to another template, which one hasn't been decided upon yet.

New team members

There are a couple of new team members in the development which I really appreciate. David Wessell has taken some time out of his very busy schedule to help moderate and answer questions in the Mamblog forums. This has been a great help and has let me concentrate more och development, thanks a lot David! Errin Hogan has also joined the team and will be working mostly with branding and marketing issues, I'm hoping this will lead to better components and it will probably mean rebranding of a couple of components as well. Finally, Mattias Johansson has joined the Mamblog development team and will mainly be working on mobile/email blogging functionality for the next release.

There's a lot of things happening now and we'd definately need more help in several areas. If you'd like to help out I'd very much appreciate some moderating help for the support forums, mainly the Jobline forum. There is also a need for better documentation for the components so if you think you are able to write technical documentation that would be very appreciated, we also need to create FAQs for all components. Graphic designers, html wizards and usability knowledge would also be appreciated as I'd like to make the components better looking and easier to use. Of course, there's always a need for good PHP coders, as the wishlists for the components are very long. Please contact me if you think you can help with anything.

Future plans

As you can see there's a lot of ideas on my Work in Progress page and while not all will be finished there will hopefully be quite a few new things released in the future.

A new version of Jobline is on the way, with quite a bit of changes, and a new version of Mamblog with additional functionality is also on the horizon. I'm hoping to be able to release the Secret Santa component before the end of November as well. The Freelancer/resume component will hopefully be finished in November as well, but it depends on how much time I will have to package a public release of it.

Honestly, if you did a 5 minute search on Google for "Mambo Blog
Component" you would see the demand for hardcore blogging system for
Joomla/Mambo..

I have hacked the current version to death but it really could
use a complete revamp on your end.
Your point being?

I've announced that there is a bug fix release imminent and also that I've
received help for developing the next version. What more do you expect from a
project I do in my spare time?

Besides, if you've hacked your version, why
don't you release your changes to the public? The component is GPLed for a
reason, you know.
